Description | Melioidosis (MD) is an infection caused by the gram-negative soil-dwelling bacillus Burkholderia pseudomallei. It predominantly affects people in regular contact with soil and water and is endemic in areas of Southeast Asia and Northern Australia. There are many possible disease manifestations including melioidosis septic shock, pneumonia, and hepatic and splenic abscesses. |
