Name | Cysticercosis |
Description | Taenia solium, the pork tapeworm, is endemic in many poorer countries of Latin America, Africa, and Asia, where pigs are raised. Human infection with T. solium occurs after ingestion of undercooked pork infected with cysticerci. The larval stage of T. solium infects the human nervous system, causing neurocysticercosis. Neurocysticercosis causes acquired epilepsy and death. |
